“Possibility grows when we choose how we want to show up.”
A note for September,
September has always felt a little like a natural turning point.
There is still a stretch of summer left, but fall is beginning to show itself where I live. School starts again, routines return, and the change in season creates a natural opportunity to pause, take stock, and think about what we want to carry forward.
There has been plenty to celebrate as August comes to a close. My youngest son’s baseball team won the BC Junior PBL Provincial Championship, a huge accomplishment for their team and franchise. My oldest is settled back into college and another season of baseball. I’m also celebrating coaching clients who have recently wrapped up meaningful seasons of growth, while welcoming new clients and continuing to support others around the world.
Baseball continues to bring plenty of proud-mom moments too. My youngest has been representing Team BC and also has an exciting national baseball opportunity ahead after being selected for the Toronto Blue Jays Canadian Futures Showcase, an opportunity awarded to just 150 players from across Canada. Can you tell I’m a proud mom? Ha!
September also brings some new goals and possibilities of my own. I’m training for my first HYROX race in December, which I’ll be doing alongside my oldest son. I’ll be levelling up my training so I can cross that finish line feeling strong and confident. I’m also thinking about new writing projects and ways I might bring together some of the work I’ve created over the years.
As I thought about how I want to move into this next season, one word kept coming to mind.
Intention.
It’s the word I’m carrying with me this month.
Not because every moment needs to be planned or productive, but because intention helps us decide how we want to show up for the life that is already unfolding.
A new season can be an invitation to celebrate where we’ve been, learn from what we’ve experienced, and create space for what might be possible next.
Here’s to a season of possibility.
In gratitude, ❤ Emily
This Month’s Reflection:
This month’s reflection is inspired by my article, How to Reset Your Mindset and Thrive.
It’s easy to think of a reset as something we need only when life has gone off track. But one of the ideas I return to in this article is that a reset can also be deliberate. We can pause before we feel stuck. We can notice what is working, pay attention to how we feel, and choose how we want to move forward.
Our mindset shapes so much of how we experience our days. When we create a little space between what happens and how we respond, we give ourselves more choice. We can challenge an old pattern, try something different, or simply approach what’s ahead with a fresh perspective.
That feels especially relevant at the beginning of a new season.
We don’t need to know exactly what the next few months will bring. We can simply decide how we want to meet them.
This Month’s Three Practices:
Remember the good, feel your best, reset as needed…
💛 Remember the Good:
Before rushing into what’s next, take a moment to notice what deserves to be celebrated.
Growth does not always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it looks like a goal reached. Other times it looks like a difficult conversation handled differently, a habit that finally stuck, a relationship strengthened, or simply continuing to show up.
Part of creating possibility is recognizing how much has already happened.
Practice:
Take a few minutes to look back on the season you are leaving behind.
Ask yourself: What am I proud of? What did I learn? What do I want to remember?
Write down three things you want to carry with you into the season ahead.
🌿 Feel Your Best:
One of the most useful practices from this month’s article is simply to create the pause.
When life gets busy, our thoughts can move quickly. We react, rush, and move from one thing to the next without always noticing how we feel.
A pause creates space.
It gives us a chance to quiet some of the noise, check in with ourselves, and decide what we actually need.
Practice:
Create one small pause in your day.
Put down your phone. Step outside. Take a few slow breaths. Sit quietly for five minutes.
Then ask yourself: How do I want to feel and show up today?
Let the answer guide what comes next.
🔄 Reset as Needed:
Possibility often requires us to get a little uncomfortable.
In my original article, I called this upping the ante. If we want something different, sometimes we need to think differently, try something new, or step beyond what has become familiar.
It doesn’t need to be a giant leap.
Small changes create movement too.
Practice:
Choose one area where you have been feeling a little stuck or overly comfortable.
Ask yourself: What is one small thing I could do differently this month?
Make it specific enough that you can actually do it.
Possibility grows when we give ourselves permission to move.
Monthly Reset
As September begins, remember:
Celebrate what’s already happened.
There is value in acknowledging how far you’ve come.
Create space before deciding what comes next.
A little pause can bring surprising clarity.
Move toward possibility with intention.
You don’t need to know the entire path. You only need to choose your next step.
Reflection for the Month
What do I want to create, experience, or make room for in this next season?
And perhaps just as importantly:
How do I want to show up for it?
